Local Nelson historian Nola Leov using the new microfilm reader at the Nelson Provincial Museum Research Facilty, Isel Park Stoke.
The Museum is the proud owner of a new ScanPro 800 microfilm reader. The reader is manufactured by e-Image Data and supplied by Auckland company AP Digital Consultancy Ltd.
The ScanPro 800 uses intuitive software and a conventional computer and monitor to allow users to view microfilm content with ease.
The purchase of this new generation microfilm reader was made possible through a generous donation by local Nelson historian Nola Leov. The Museum is extremely grateful to Nola for her donation and we are excited by the capability the reader offers to researchers visiting the Museum's library.
The Nelson Provincial Museum's Research Library and Archive holds a large microfilm collection accessed regularly by researchers on a microfilm reader.
The collection of 967 reels includes: the Nelson Evening Mail and Nelson Mail, up to 1985; Nelson/Tasman district community newspapers; Father Garin's journals; Heine and Hodgson family archives; Nelson Board of Works and some early Nelson City Council records; Nelson Provincial Government gazettes, votes and proceedings; 1912-1924 Waimea County Council Register of Motors. While some of the newspapers are available on the PapersPast website the Museum does have some unique holdings which are not available at the Elma Turner Library in Nelson city.
