The Bolton, 540 tons gross / 518 tons reg. Built at Liverpool in 1822 for the owner John Bolton and commanded by Captain Robinson for the voyage to Nelson in 1842. Her previous voyage was to Wellington with some of its first immigrants in 1840. The ship was on a voyage from Sydney to Callao, Chile in 1852 with a cargo of stone to build a fort and was lost when the cargo shifted and opened up the hull in a gale, 300 miles off Callao, the crew took to the ships longboat and five days later made it safely to port.
