Ship Details:

Ship Name: Slains CastleSlains Castle
Ship Information:
On the barque Slains Castle which arrived in 1845 was probably the first Flax machinery to come to New Zealand, together with the men to set it up and use it. A Durham cow and bull calf, a Cheviot and 2 Merino rams, a Cheviot ewe, a hive of bees and several cases of plants and fruit trees were all unloaded at Nelson along with a 15 ton iron punt, to be used for moving all manner of stuff up the rivers as it was the only way to get around the district in the early days.
